New Scion xB Ordered!

I didn’t get a chance to post about it till now but last weekend I ordered my new 2010 Scion xB! I can’t wait, I am so excited to have a new car!! It should be here in about 4-6 weeks from now. I’ve been wanting one for some time and was about to pull the trigger when I found out about the 2010 model which for the same price as the 2009 had a better stereo and some new features. So I went with that one and picked it in Sting-ray Metallic, a kind of blue with silver, which looks different depending on the lighting. I also added in the Bluetooth car kit and the 16″ Alloy wheels. It’ll have window tinting and a few other things added on as well.

Trip to San Francisco

Just got back from visiting my sister Heidi in San Francisco. We had a great time and it was a very nice and needed mini-vacation! We did so much I was very happy that we got to see so much. Seeing the different parts of town were great, downtown by the pier’s were amazing. The parks were very cool and the amazing weather to go along with it all was great! Also, we took a drive down to the aquarium in Monterrey it was absolutely amazing…enjoyed every bit of it 🙂 I got to try some really good food too which was also great. I took many pictures but haven’t even had a chance to go through them all between a couple of digital cameras and iPhones so Ill post some now and some later…

Not all clouds are formed the same. Mosso Cloud Sites vs. Media Temple GS

I wanted to shed a spotlight on some great research a friend of mine Chad did between two of the most well known cloud computing companies Mosso Cloud Sites and Media Temple GS. He methodically tested both with well known benchmarking tools and came up with some staggering results. Mosso knocked Media Temple to the mat with really no fight at all.

I cant stress enough the importance of quality in hosting to those who have a real need for a large amount of hosting and absolutely most importantly reliable hosting! There are many out there who are willing to risk the possibility of a little down time to save a few dollars, but honestly are you doing yourself a favor if your e-commerce site goes down and you lose out on a whole lot more than a few dollars?

I personally use Mosso Cloud Sites for my projects and wouldn’t have it any other way.

MacHeist 3

The heist has already begun! It’s that time for MacHeist 3!

At this point there has already been a few microMissions and a full Mission, at this point we are awaiting the next mission…but some great apps have already been had!

This time around the Directorate has placed everyone on teams and implemented a points system on the site which points are earned by participation on the site. While we don’t know what the points are for just yet, its been great to get involved in the community on the forums, in the IRC, listening to the podcasts, and getting to know other heisters.

For those of you who are Mac users and aren’t aware of MacHeist. It’s a community of mac users and developers who participate in planned events by the MacHeist Directorate coordinating puzzles and missions for community users to complete for free fully licensed mac applications.

Also, at the end of the Heist, the Directorate releases a ‘bundle’ of applications for sale. The bundle is basically a bunch of mac applications rounded up and sold at a very discounted rate. So instead of going out and purchasing each application for full price, users can purchase these apps all at once for cheap. In turn, the developers, who make there apps apart of the bundle are promoting their applications by selling a very large amount of them cheaper thus for some increasing profit they would have not gained otherwise and hopefully increase the user base that will pay to upgrade the applications as they are updated with new versions and features.

All around a great program that comes around about once a year, it’s a lot of fun being part of the community and the mystery of the heists. Best of all, you get free useful (most of them) apps.

If you have yet to check it out, it’s definitely worth it! Explore the heist here.

Ravens in the AFC championship game!

As a devout Ravens fan, I thought I would share with you my thought’s on today’s playoff games.

Firstly, the Eagles and the Cardinals. The Eagles should clearly win this game, they are tough mentally and physically and have built up enough steam from midseason to beat any team, any day in this league. Being counted out and looked down upon they rose to the occasion and played like a real championship team. A very nice in your face to those who gave up and called for a witching. The Cardinals they are a good team, a team that deserves to be where they are but as far as seasons go they don’t stack up against the best.

Now, I got everything I asked for thus far and more in regards to the Ravens. They have had a great season and have exploded in the playoffs from 6th seed to team to beat. Being a real football fan in my mind I picked the teams to advance that were the most competitive team in the match-ups, not necessarily the teams that give the Ravens the easiest path to the Superbowl. So I got what I wanted a tough as nails, gritty, unearthing matchup at the unforgiving heinz field between the Ravens and the Steelers.

Even though the Steelers beat the Ravens in both meetings during the regular season (One by last second field goal and other by erroneous and questionable review call of a late Steelers touchdown) the Ravens have the defense and a good solid quarterback to ensure a victory.

So there is my quick and very perceptive analysis. Not much else to say really, but GO RAVENS!

P.S. I am still wallowing in the loss that was the Colts season, they had a heck of a run but couldn’t hang on against the Chargers in the end. As much as I want to see the Steelers lose I enjoyed watching them dismantle the Chargers last week in the divisional. But true champions know that you can’t win it all the time, do your best and you’ll be back on top in no time.

These are just a few of my favorite things.

As we get closer to the holiday season; its important to remember the most important things. Friends, Family, and GIFTS! Gifts are supposed to be about the little things, the things we never think about, the thing we don’t depend on. Yet, presents have become big things, things we dream about, and desperately depend on.

Surely, everyone has been on on good and bad ends of gift giving. Receiving that ugly christmas sweater or even better giving that ugly christmas sweater. I came across a video the other day that completely got me into the season and I want to share it with you so you can feel the christmas fever too.

So to bring us into the season we have a great video which in my opinion captures the true spirit of christmas. The guys at Vimeo always do a great job at keeping us entertained and this time is no different. A few of them came up with a tribute to all things holiday sweater.

Without further ado I share with you: The Holiday Sweater Song.

iPhone 3G: Ridiculous!

So I have had my iPhone 3G for a couple of months now and it’s about time I put down my review of the update to the first generation iPhone. I can pretty much some it up in one word RIDICULOUS!

It’s just uncanny the sheer speed, ease, and useful it has been for me. Before I get to just how great this phone is I wanted to point out that it was not without it’s issues to start. It had some problems with slow loading of contacts, dropping calls, and installation of third-party apps. They have worked hard at it and all those issues have already been resolved via software update. Not to mention added features also being rolled out by Apple.

In any event, on to the features! To start lets talk integration with mobile me, their newly released service to replace .Mac for e-mail, calendars, contacts, and web storage. This integration allows me to have push e-mail, all my calendars, contacts with me at all times on my phone that are synched via the internet and my home computer. I have my phone numbers and listing of where I need to be with me at all times…It truly helps me stay organized.

The highly desirable GPS chip inside is more than I could imagine. Using real-time GPS allows me to find people, places, and information at in the most powerful way, adding that to the “3G” data network connection with it makes it lightning fast. I was sitting at home with my family while my sister was visiting and we were discussing making dinner reservations…we decided on a place and before my sister could finish talking about calling them up and getting the number to the restaurant I had already started dialing. It was literally about 7 seconds for me to pull up google maps, search, see how far it was from me, obtain the number and dial it. RIDICULOUS! RIGHT?!?!

Lastly, one of the most prominent additions was third-party apps. There are some really genius coders out their and they have dazzled with the apps they have come up with that use the built-in features 3G, GPS, Contacts ect. Overall making the iPhone a Continued success and a absolute pleasure to have by me.

Some features I am still waiting on:
App background notification
Copy and Paste

Can’t wait for another update…I want it now.
